Thursday Linkorama

This entry is just a summary of recent news relevant to this Web site.

First, I finally wrote and uploaded my latest article on South Sudan in the South Sudan section. It's title is Slavery.

Second, I wrote two entries on Windows 8 and Windows RT.

Third, a while ago I wrote two entries on MS-DOS (one and two), part of my series on the history of personal computers starting with the entry on CP/M.

Fourth, I finally found a usable, for my purposes, 68000 emulator, "Hatari".

It runs what is technically the current version of the operating system, namely the newest release of the open-sourced original Digital Research DOS that the Atari ST ran. It can access a host file system. And it offers a few settings I might likely need.

In particular the differences between the 68000 and 68010 and later the 68030 will likely be very relevant for my PC series.

I have some useful software for the Atari ST, including 68k versions of Turbo Pascal and Turbo C, and I found a copy of Turbo Assembler for the 68000 family. Believe it or not but you can still buy licenses for Atari ST software in Europe!

(I also have MagicPC , an Atari emulator and operating system for Windows but the keyboard settings are so terribly wrong that I cannot use it for my purposes as I cannot type special characters like # and { easily or without crashing the VM.)
